How does it work? YOU make it work. Idaho Volunteer Lawyers Program and Idaho Legal Aid Services depend on the dedication and generosity of Idaho attorneys. Whether you choose to take a case, act as a mentor to another attorney or volunteer at one of our free legal clinics, your time truly makes a difference.
We'd like to introduce you to one of our volunteers.
Meet Branden Huckstep!
Preferred name: Branden
Hometown/town where you live: Grew up in Eagle, ID and I currently live in Boise, ID.
Favorite IVLP volunteer moment?
I was assisting a mother navigate her divorce proceedings and documents and helping shine a light into the darkness that is the judicial process for a pro se litigant. The gratitude and emotion that she felt and expressed as she realized how close she was to ending her nightmare and being able to see my helping hand in her process to find peace was very gratifying.
Why do you make the time to do pro bono service? What does it mean to you?
There are always opportunities to give back and serve our communities. As attorneys, we have a skillset that can create a comfortable living for us and our families. It is with that same skillset that we can personally give back and provide a much needed service to those who cannot otherwise walk into our offices and retain someone to represent them. I personally learn so much each time I do pro bono work. It is a great way to help me continue to learn and grow in my practice while at the same time offering the much needed assistance to someone who is forced to navigate the judicial system alone.
Thank you, Branden!
